Frequently asked questions
Does ReMux Bot re-encode my videos?
No. It remuxes: the existing video and audio streams are copied into a new MP4 container rather than re-compressed. Because nothing is re-encoded there is no loss in quality, and conversion runs up to 120× faster than transcoding.
Will the converted files play on iPhone, Apple TV and AirPlay?
Yes — that is what the conversion is for. Version 2.0 also shows an Apple TV-ready badge so you can see at a glance whether the output will play natively, and warns you before converting if your codec will not fit the container you chose.
Are my video files uploaded anywhere?
No. ReMux Bot works 100% offline and has no network functionality at all. Your files are read and written on your own Mac and never leave it, and the app collects no data or telemetry.
Which video codecs are supported?
H.264 (x264) and H.265 (x265) sources, remuxed at their original resolution for Apple TV and iOS playback and maximum device compatibility.
Are subtitles preserved?
Yes. Version 2.0 preserves SRT and ASS subtitles when converting to MP4.
What does ReMux Bot cost, and what does it require?
It is $2.99 on the Mac App Store. It requires macOS 14.0 or later and ships as a universal binary, so it runs natively on both Apple Silicon and Intel Macs.
Is the app available in my language?
It is fully localized in 10 languages: English, Simplified Chinese, Japanese, Korean, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese and Russian.
What happens if a conversion fails?
You can view and copy the exact FFmpeg log for the failed conversion, so the cause is visible rather than hidden behind a generic error.
